Grade-Level Projects

Each grade-level sponsored community service project in 2002 will be focused on a specific agency. The hope is that this commitment will lead to a mutually-beneficial relationship between the GPS community and the local agency with which they are working. Go to the website calendar to find out when your grade will be sponsoring a project.

6th grade - The 6th graders will be going twice this year  to various Head Start Centers, reading centers, and inner city schools in order to read to the students. They will also pack shoeboxes with gifts for
Operation Christmas Child and help the Houston Museum prepare projects for its educational program.

7th grade - The 7th grade advisory groups have adopted the residents of St. Barnabas Nursing Home in downtown Chattanooga. The girls will be visiting residents a few times this year, as well as preparing cards, pictures, and placemats for them.

8th grade - GPS 8th graders will be reading books on tape and donating both the tapes and the books to the students of Calvin Donaldson Elementary School. There are also going to be matched up as pen pals with the third grade classes of CDES.

9th grade - The 9th grade class will be working with the Multiple Sclerosis Society on several big events this year.

10th grade - The sophomore class just held a successful Fall Festival for the Big Brothers Big Sisters "Littles" - those children on the waiting list for a big brother or sister. Check out the pictures on the photos page. If you are interested in being a "Big," please visit the BBBS website to find out more or contact Miss Manley.

11th and 12th grade - For the fourth year, the GPS seniors will be partnering with McCallie to build a Habitat home for a deserving Chattanooga family. For the first time, however, the juniors will be joining them!
