Each quarter GPS will sponsor a school-wide community service project centered around a particular area of service. The hope is that these projects will involve the majority of the student body and expose the girls to just a few of the many ways they can serve.

First Quarter - Making a Difference in Health Care

GPS students, parents, faculty, and alumnae recently participated in the 4th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Chattanooga. (Photos to the right.) This year, over 490 people were on TEAM GPS, helping to raise over $5600 for breast cancer research and support. The team was honored as the Outstanding Team in the School Division. In addition GPS once again partnered with the local race coordinators in hosting a very special reception in the Visions Leadership Center for breast cancer survivors.

In addition, the students participated in Lee Denim Day, a civilian dress day during which all proceeds go to the
Susan G. Komen Foundation. On this one day, an additional $2800+ was raised! Amazing!

THANK YOU to all the participants and supporters - you truly did Make A Difference!

Second Quarter - Making a Difference for Families

The annual Christmas project with the Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults will be the primary focus during the second quarter.  Once again student advisory groups will be "adopt" a family and provide Christmas gifts for them. This year, some of our adopted families will come from the Community Kitchen, for the first time. we are excited about strengthening the relationship we already have with the Kitchen. Check the calendar for earlier than usual dates for this year's project.

Third Quarter - Making a Difference in Education

Although individual students tutor all year long, the third quarter focus will be on how we as an academic community can share our educational resources with other students. Possibilities are endless, but much of this will be done during Winterim in February, when GPS students spend 2 days out in the community working in various schools and agencies.

Fourth Quarter - Making a Difference in the Environment
We will have a school-wide work day in the spring at the Riverview Bird Sanctuary in addition to helping the Tennessee River Gorge Trust with river clean-up.
